Joy Together: The Discipline of Discernment
Galatians 5: 16-26
Devotional
Scriptures Galatians 5: 16-26
Read the scripture daily. Read it slowly. What is God bringing to your attention through this passage?
Questions to consider:
- How do you most often make decisions?
- What does discernment look like in your own life?
- What guides the way you make decisions, the heart or the mind?
- How do you most often experience God’s guidance?
- What helps make God’s voice more clear to you? What are the greatest obstacles to hearing God’s voice?
- Who are the people who help you with discernment?
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 John 4:1
If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.
James 1:5
Spiritual Practice:
- Write down some large decisions that you have made in your life. Write down how you discerned each decision.
- Pray to God to reveal to you the desire of God’s heart. Take time to listen to God, especially for the nudging of the Holy Spirit.
- Find an accountability partner to join you in matters of discernment.
